In barely 24 hours that the newly appointed NNPC GMD came on board to pilot the affairs of the Nation's owned oil company, Emmanuel Ibe Kachikwu, the new
head of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corp (NNPC) has dismissed the firm’s senior managers, according to reports by Reuters.
One of the affected managers who pledged anonymity has said that "Buhari wanted a clean slate, so all the executive directors were taken out of the scene". Another source also informed that the names of the newly appointed managers would be published soon and due to the restructuring exercise in the system,
that the number of executive
director positions would be reduced to four.
Furthermore another anonymous source has disclosed that the four offices had been approved by the presidency. It could be recalled that in July, President Muhammadu Buhari said that the NNPC would be restructured but didn't give any clues to that effect.
The eight group executive directors that were
dismissed worked directly under the head of the firm. They headed exploration and production, refining and petrochemicals, engineering and technical, gas and power, business development, finance and accounts and commerce and investments.
