Agreement has been made between the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory
Commission (NERC) and the Manufacturers Association of
Nigeria (MAN) for a framework to create a micro electricity grid to service industrial clusters in the country, Daily Trust reports.
During a meeting held recently in Abuja at the commission’s
headquarters, the parties set up a
committee that would address the
“challenges posed to industrial productivity and how to dedicate small grids connected to large distribution grids to industrial
clusters.”
The considered options for the project entails arrangement to upgrade licences of captive electricity generators with excess capacities to supply firms within their vicinity through commercial arrangements that would be
jointly beneficial to the electricity
distribution companies and the industries.
